A network is much like a chain, it's only as strong as it's weakest link. Imagine a pitch-black house. Your goal is to light up as much of it as possible. You turn on the flashlight on your smartphone and now can see a small amount. Most of the house however remains dark. You place a small mirror in the hallway to reflect some of light into another section of the house resulting in slightly more illumination. Just like smartphones aren’t designed to be high-powered flashlights, ISP provided routers aren’t designed to beam high-powered signals.
